A basic stereo system needs speaker cable (amplifier to speakers) and one or more interconnects (source to amplifier). QED — founded in the UK in 1973 and exclusively distributed in Australia by AVR — produces both speaker cable and interconnects that are consistently awarded by What Hi-Fi? as best-in-class at their price points.

Keep speaker cables as short as practically possible — ideally under 3 metres per channel. Longer runs increase resistance, which can affect bass control and damping factor. For runs over 5 metres, use a heavier gauge cable (lower AWG number). QED produces speaker cables in multiple gauges for different run lengths.
Single-wire uses one cable run per channel. Bi-wire uses two runs — one to the high-frequency binding posts and one to the low-frequency posts. QED pioneered bi-wire technology in 1983 (documented in hi-fi literature as an industry first). Speakers with dual binding posts — including many Wharfedale models — support bi-wiring.
Quality cables matter with diminishing returns. The largest gains come at entry level — moving from generic cables to a purpose-built hi-fi cable like QED Performance XT25 produces audible improvements in clarity and imaging. AVR recommends spending more on speakers and amplifiers than cables, but a matched QED cable completes the signal chain correctly.
