Manual turntables require you to cue, lower, and lift the tonearm at all stages of record play. They’re an audiophile preference because they reduce moving mechanical parts. Fewer moving turntable parts means less potential noise, noise that can be picked up by the cartridge. And that means cleaner, more detailed audio performance. It also means that you can upgrade to higher performance cartridges (more sensitive needles) in the future.
